The Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Dr. Sahar Nasr met with the UN Resident Coordinator in Cairo Mr. Richard Dictus to discuss the preparation developments of the UN new partnership framework during the period from 2018 to 2022.
Both sides discussed the outcomes of the consultations held by the UN with various ministries and relevant agencies on such framework to identify the latest developmental needs and new areas of cooperation. In this regard, MIIC coordinates with the UN Resident Coordinator Office, all ministries and government agencies.
The Minister pointed out that the government gave priority to the framework’s contribution to fulfilling citizens’ needs in line with Egypt’s development agenda. She emphasized the necessity that the UN framework would focus on lagging regions and entrepreneurship, which contributes to providing youth and women with job opportunities.
Both sides further tackled the significance of integration between international institutions and the implementation of several projects, particularly those contributing to increasing services in governorates such as the projects of sanitation, clean water and electricity, in coordination of MPs.
The upcoming period would give priority to the development of lagging regions such as Upper Egypt and Sinai, asserted the Minister, noting that Egypt’s economic and social programs gave top priority to eliminating poverty and enhancing sustainable economic growth through providing adequate job opportunities, developing sustainable infrastructure and expanding the use of renewable energy sources. Within this framework, Mr. Dictus reiterated the UN’s full support of Egypt in its endeavors to achieve its development goals.
